Saddle Stitch Binding

Staples along the spine fold hold pages together. The most affordable option for booklets up to 64 pages. Pages must be a multiple of 4. Opens completely flat, making it ideal for newsletters, event programs, thin catalogs, and zines. No printable spine — booklets lie flat on shelves rather than standing upright.

Perfect Binding

Pages are glued to a flat spine, like a paperback book. Supports 28 to 700+ pages (must be a multiple of 2). The flat spine can be printed with your title, making it ideal for catalogs, magazines, directories, and manuals that need shelf presence. More durable for frequent handling. Calculate your spine width.

Also available: spiral and wire-o binding (360° fold-back, ideal for cookbooks and manuals) and case binding (hardcover, for premium presentation).

Booklets

Multiple pages bound together with a cover. Typically 8–64 pages (saddle stitch) or more (perfect bound). Uses the same offset printing process as books. Best for content that needs more space than a brochure: programs, product guides, zines, and short catalogs.

Catalogs

A booklet or book specifically designed to showcase products with descriptions and pricing. Often 24–200+ pages with high-quality coated paper for product photography. The production overlap is significant — a 48-page saddle-stitched product catalog is technically both a booklet and a catalog.

Frequently Asked Questions About Booklet Printing

How much does booklet printing cost?

Booklet printing costs depend on page count, size, paper type, and quantity. A standard 24-page saddle-stitched booklet in quantities of 500+ typically costs a few dollars per unit with offset printing. Higher quantities bring the per-unit cost down significantly. Use our instant quote calculator for exact pricing.

What is saddle stitch binding?

Saddle stitch binding uses staples along the spine fold to hold the pages together. It’s the most common and affordable binding method for booklets with up to 64 pages. The pages are nested inside each other (not stacked), so the page count must be a multiple of 4. Learn more about the saddle stitch binding process.

What is the difference between a booklet and a brochure?

A booklet is a multi-page, bound publication (typically 8+ pages) with a cover and interior pages. A brochure is usually a single sheet folded into panels (bi-fold, tri-fold, or Z-fold). Booklets allow for more content and a more professional presentation.

What are common uses for custom booklets?

Custom booklets are used for product catalogs, event programs, instruction manuals, lookbooks, zines, restaurant menus, employee handbooks, and marketing materials. Any project that needs more pages than a brochure but fewer than a full book is a good fit for booklet printing.

What file format should I submit?

Submit your booklet as a print-ready PDF with individual pages (not spreads), 0.125-inch bleed on all sides, CMYK color mode, and 300 DPI resolution. Make sure your page count is a multiple of 4 for saddle stitch binding. See our book file setup guide.

How long does booklet printing take?

Standard turnaround for offset booklet printing is 4–6 weeks from file approval to delivery. This includes prepress review, printing, binding, and shipping. View our production timeline.

Can I mix paper types within a booklet?

Yes — it’s common to use a heavier cover stock (such as 80# or 100# cover) for the outer cover and a lighter text weight (60#–80# text) for the interior pages. You can also mix coated and uncoated pages within the same booklet for different sections. Discuss your options with our prepress team when you submit your files.
