What Our Customers Say

Why Offset Printing for Coloring Books?

If you’re printing 500 or more coloring books, offset lithography delivers better paper options, sharper line reproduction, and dramatically lower per-unit costs than print-on-demand. Offset printing gives you full control over paper weight, texture, and binding — critical choices for a coloring book where the end user will be drawing directly on the page.

PrintNinja prints coloring books using calibrated offset presses that reproduce fine line art with precision. Whether your designs are intricate mandalas, bold cartoon illustrations, or detailed botanical drawings, offset ensures clean, consistent reproduction from the first copy to the last.

Coloring Book Formats We Print

We also print custom sizes — square formats, oversized art coloring books, and non-standard dimensions are all available.

Paper Options for Coloring Books

Paper choice is critical because your customers will be using markers, colored pencils, crayons, or gel pens directly on the page.

  • 70# or 80# uncoated text — Most popular. Excellent tooth for colored pencils and crayons. Heavier weight reduces marker bleed-through.
  • 60# uncoated text — Lighter, more economical. Works well with pencils and crayons.
  • 80# matte text — Smooth, non-reflective surface. Works with all coloring media.
  • 100# uncoated text — Heaviest option, ideal for markers and wet media. Virtually eliminates bleed-through.

Important We strongly recommend uncoated paper for coloring books — coated (gloss) paper repels most coloring media and isn't suitable for this application.

Binding Options

Saddle Stitch

Stapled through the spine fold. Ideal for coloring books up to about 64 pages. Lies relatively flat when open.

Perfect Binding

Flat spine with a wraparound cover. Best for thicker coloring books (48+ pages). Professional bookstore-ready appearance.

Spiral / Wire-O

Allows the book to lay completely flat or fold back on itself. The best functional choice for coloring books, especially larger formats.

Special Features for Coloring Books

  • Perforated pages — Add perforation near the spine so finished pages tear out cleanly for framing or display.
  • Single-sided printing — Print artwork on one side only so markers don’t bleed through onto the next design.
  • Heavy cover stock — 80# or 100# cover with gloss or matte lamination protects the book during use and retail display.
  • Custom sizes — Square, oversized, or mini formats to differentiate your book in the market.

Pro Tip
Single-sided printing uses more paper but dramatically improves the coloring experience — and it allows customers to frame their finished pages without losing the design on the reverse side.

Frequently Asked Questions About Coloring Book Printing

What paper is best for coloring books?

Uncoated paper is essential for coloring books because it provides the texture (tooth) that colored pencils and crayons need to grip. We recommend 70# or 80# uncoated text for most coloring books. If your customers will use markers, choose 80# or 100# uncoated to minimize bleed-through. Explore paper options.

Should I print single-sided or double-sided?

Single-sided printing prevents marker bleed-through and lets users tear out and frame pages. Double-sided uses less paper and reduces cost — better for pencil/crayon-only projects.

What is the minimum order for coloring book printing?

Our minimum order is 500 copies. At this quantity, offset printing delivers significantly lower per-unit costs than print-on-demand. Quantities of 1,000–5,000 offer the best value for most independent publishers.

Can I add perforated pages to my coloring book?

Yes. We can add perforation near the spine on every page so finished artwork tears out cleanly. Perforation works with saddle stitch, perfect binding, and spiral/wire-o bound coloring books.
