Custom Miniatures Material
What kind of material will your custom miniatures be made of? What is this process like?
The process that PrintNinja uses to create your custom miniatures is injection molding. The material we use is PVC plastic.
The raw plastic that goes into the machine is melted down and then injected as a liquid into the tool that contains the designs.
The plastic can be a variety of colors. If your pieces will not be painted, you can choose either white, grey, or a custom color to make miniatures that are 1 solid color.
If you wish to create 1 design but have it available in multiple colors, it’s more cost-effective to select one PVC color and paint the pieces. The manufacturing process has a minimum of 1,000 injections per color – so if you’d like 1,000 pieces, but want 5 colors, you would paint the pieces 5 colors since getting 5 different colors of plastic would require 5,000 injections.
For large scale manufacturing of tens of thousands of games, multiple injections would be the most efficient. However, for game orders under 5,000 units, painting is the most cost-effective way of creating multiple colors of the same piece.
